Luke 2:34

Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

While a certain man who was righteous before God lived in Israel, his destiny from God was to reveal to all mankind who the Savior of the world was. This man was called Simeon. He was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the LORD’s Christ. So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, he took Him in his arms and blessed God and said: “LORD, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your Word; For my eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, A Light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.” (Luke 2:26-32). Simeon’s words were a prophecy of what was to become of Jesus Christ. According to Luke 2:34, Jesus Christ’s destiny was for the fall and rising of many in Israel. In other words Simeon revealed Jesus Christ as the long expected Messiah to the Jews, though many of them would miss the hour of their visitation. However, for God’s elect in Israel this would be the hour of their visitation. Simeon also revealed through His prophecy that Jesus Christ would bring salvation even to foreign nations and this includes yourself and myself. Simeon lived for God and after Jesus Christ was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, he immediately prayed to God to now let his soul depart in peace. Many people today have got very confused destinies. They spend all their lives here on earth completely disconnected from God because they are only busy concentrating on earthly things which will perish rather than seeking after salvation. To know your destiny, you must listen to God like what Simeon did. Once your destiny is directed by the Holy Spirit of God, you will find satisfaction in life like what Simeon did. Today I am therefore saying, be an active member of Team Jesus Christ, seek after your God destiny through His Word and all will be well with you. . Alleluia!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, may You reveal to me my destiny while I live here on earth so that I will be pleasing to You like Your servant Simeon whom You guided to see Jesus Christ by the power of Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
