GUARD AGAINST MAMMON

Devotion of the Day

Matthew 6:24

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

Additional Verses
πŸ“– Proverbs 16:1-33; Matthew 6:19-34

What is mammon? It is deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever you put your trust in above God. Many people come to Church in order that they may receive a blessing from God to make a lot of money or in order that their businesses may prosper or broken relationships mended. Once this happens, you will no longer see them in Church again. You even hear some when they are asked why they are no longer coming to Church saying that they are so pressed with business matters that they can hardly find any time to come to Church on Sundays. Such people are slaves of mammon and their lives before God become a lie. They only come to serve God only when they are in a crisis. These are the people whom the LORD Jesus Christ is rebuking in the above text. Matthew 6:33 says, β€œBut seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” If you are one such person who serves God in order that your business and finances may increase, you are still walking in the dark because as long as you are putting your business and finances above God, you are serving mammon and this is idolatry. Do not allow the riches and all other things to make you lose your salvation. 1Timothy 6:6-7 says, β€œNow godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” The best investment you can ever have is your salvation and this can only happen when you love God more than you love anything or anyone else including your own life. Matthew 10:37 says, β€œAnyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” So make the right choice today and put God first in everything you will ever do and I tell you, you will not miss your place in the kingdom of the Father when the LORD Jesus Christ comes in His glory. Alleluia!

Prayer

Dear LORD Jesus Christ, thank You for letting me know that I should decide to serve One Master and that is You alone. I never want to compare You with other worldly things that may block me from worshipping You faithfully. Thank You LORD Jesus Christ. Amen.
