Devotion of the Day

(John 8:31-32)

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed in Him, “If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

When Jesus Christ spoke, He spoke absolute truth because in Him there is no lie at all. In John 14:6 Jesus Christ says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” It is only when you abide in Jesus Christ that you can live a truthful life. The first step in abiding in Him is to believe in God through His Word. The second step is to receive Jesus Christ as Savior of your life. The third step is to allow Jesus Christ to become LORD of Your life. Jesus Christ can only become your LORD when you abide by His Word and His Word becomes the standard of your life. It is the Word of God that you take into your heart that will cause you to bear the fruit of a Christian and this fruit is the truth. Once the truth of God dominates your life, you become a friend of God just as what Abraham was like. You will not have to put a tag around your neck for people to know that you are a Christian, but the works of God coming from your life will tell the world who you are. Matthew 7:20 says, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” By your fruits the world will know you. The truth of Jesus Christ will manifest in your life only when you have faith in God, hope in God and the love of God. These three can only take place when you believe in God, study the Word of God, obey the Word of God and you do not compromise the Word of God or make any excuses concerning what God says to you in His Word. You must know that the opposite of truth is a lie. Today I am therefore encouraging you to strive for the truth always. Remember the LORD gave you His Holy Spirit to help you, counsel you, comfort you, strengthen you, advocate for you, intercede for you and to be your standby in the most difficult situations. Matthew 10:19-20 says, “But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what you shall speak; for it shall be given you in that same hour what you shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.” The Holy Spirit was given to help you to maintain a life of truthfulness so that the thief, the destroyer and the killer will not be able to rob you of your salvation. Alleluia!

Prayer

Help me Father to strive for the truth only and always. I thank You Holy Spirit for being there to help me, counsel me, comfort me, strengthen me, advocate for me, intercede for me and to be my standby in the most difficult situations. I thank You LORD Jesus Christ. Amen.
